Screening of “Ghosts of Amistad : In the Footsteps of the Rebels” with Marcus Rediker

The Cultural Service of the Embassy of the United States of America and the Fondation des Etats Unis are pleased to invite you to the preview of the documentary The Ghosts of Amistad: In the Footsteps of the Rebels, in the presence of its author and producer Marcus Rediker. The documentary will be presented in VOSTF and followed by an exchange in English.

Marcus Rediker is an American professor, historian, essayist and activist. He is a specialist in maritime social history and piracy. Marcus Rediker is currently Professor of Atlantic History and Chair of the Department of History at the University of Pittsburgh. Rediker has written several books on the social aspects of maritime history. He considers 17th century sailors and pirates as the precursors of modern anti-capitalist movements. Marcus Rediker is also interested in the transatlantic slave trade and shows us with his documentary The Ghosts of Amistad : In the footsteps of the Rebels a reconstruction of the history of the Amistad revolt, based on testimonies and research in the villages of origin of African rebels in Sierra Leone.
