American soprano Catherine Tang received her Bachelors of Arts in Vocal Performance at the Herb Alpert School of Music, University of California Los Angeles. Last year she obtained Diplôme Supérieur d’Art Lyrique from the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, Alfred Cortot, and is in pursuit of her Diplôme Supérieur de Concertiste under the guidance of Vladimir Chernov and assistant Olga Toporkova. As a pairs figure-skater, competing at the Junior Olympics twice, she has always possessed a love for performing. At UCLA Catherine performed as Poppea in Handel’s Agrippina, Monica in The Medium, Alinda in the West Coast premiere of Giasone. She performs frequently with the prestigious Los Angeles Opera’s Outreach Department, having performed lead roles such as Queen of the Night and Papagena in Sing out Loud!’s The Magic Flute. Ms. Tang has also performed as the lead in Opera Pacific’s American premiere of The Starchild, Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro (La Musica Lirica, Italy), Flora in Turn of the Screw for LA Opera’s Britten 100/LA: A Celebration and Yum Yum in The Mikado (Pacific Opera Project), Maria understudy in West Side Story (Broadway By the Bay), Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, Anne Egerman in Sondheim’s A Little Night Music (East West Players), and Christine in Vox Lumiere’s tour of Phantom of the Opera. In Paris, Katy has performed selections as Sophie in Werther and Amour in Orphée et Eurydice aboard La Péniche Opéra. She is the recipient of the Gladys Turk Foundation Award and the Maxwell H. Gluck Music Foundation Performance Fellow Award. She received 1st place in the Fullerton Sings Competition (2012), 2nd place in the Classical Singer Competition (2007), and she was a Semi Finalist in The Los Angeles Spotlight Awards, and a Merit winner for the National Foundation of Advancement of the Arts.The program is coming soon on our website.
