Progress in Work or the fortuitous encounter between three young artists in the making. Through their continuous search for new forms, patterns, techniques, media and inspirations, they satisfy their creative needs while shaping their artistic universes. This exhibition by FEU residents Laura Francese, Marcel Abadia and Maximilien Gremaud is much more than a simple presentation of their current explorations; it is an insight into their personal quest for an artistic identity. Laura’s work demonstrates her taste for narration, which is as present in her use of language as it is in the picture itself. Like Maximilien, she works with a great variety of media including pastels, oil painting, modelling and digital images, each medium allowing her to elaborate different stories and to represent the world. In this exhibition, she is showing her latest studies about the representation of the human body and the latest techniques she has acquired. Marcel discovered his talent for art while he was in his second year of high school. For the past three years, he has been exploring our imaginary childhood worlds and creating bizarre clay creatures. Maximilien explores a number of surprisingly different media : a scrap of paper, beeswax, oil painting and numeric media, to mention a few. Maximilien also writes on a daily basis, something he started while studying Art History at the Ecole du Louvre and Anthropology at the EHESS. All of his pieces demonstrate his curiosity for philosophy, nature, animals, art history…
Artists’ biographies
Marcel Abadia grew up in Orange County California. He only started taking art in his second year of high school and, while there, was designated as Artist of the year in the 3D visual arts category. One of his works was nominated to be in the permanent collection of his high school. His artwork is more fantasy based and centered on creatures and monsters. Marcel would like to work in the movie or video games industry creating bizarre creatures.
Born in Angoulême in 1994, Laura Francese completed her BA in Art History and Archeology at the Ecole du Louvre. She is currently a student at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, where she is developing her interests in visual arts and design. It is her second year living in an art studio at the Fondation des Etats-Unis.
Maximilien Gremaud was born in France in 1994. After graduating from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Versailles, he decided to study philosophy and art history at the Ecole du Louvre, while continuing to paint and create sculptures. He has been living in one of the Fondation des Etats-Unis’ art studios since October 2017.
