Thomas Gurin

Tom Gurin is a composer, multimedia artist, and carillonist from the United States. He was in residence at the Fondation des États-Unis as the recipient of a 2021-2022 Fulbright-Harriet Hale Woolley Award. While in Paris, his work was rooted in Paris’ public spaces and sought to address the hurdles that have impeded or altered interactive artistic experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. After his stay at the FEU, he was in residence at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris. He is currently a master’s student in mixed and multimedia composition at the Haute école de musique de Genève. He previously studied composition at Yale University, privately with Allain Gaussin, and at the École Normale de Musique de Paris “Alfred Cortot” (Diplôme supérieur d’enseignement). He has contributed to numerous international composition festivals, including the Fontainebleau Schools of Music and Fine Arts, ilSUONO Contemporary Music Week, highSCORE New Music Festival, and the Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival in New York City. Tom also holds an artist diploma “With Great Distinction” from the Royal Carillon School “Jef Denyn” (Belgium) as a United States Fellow of the Belgian American Educational Foundation. He served as Duke University Chapel Carillonneur before moving to Paris, and has performed dozens of open-air concerts from bell towers throughout Europe and North America.
