Who is Lia ?

My name is Lia Pannetier. I am 23 years old and currently an artist-in-residence at the Fondation des États-Unis for the 2025–2026 academic year. In parallel, I am pursuing an international Master’s degree in Art and Creation at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. My artistic practice is deeply introspective, emotionally charged, and informed by social reflection, driven by a strong interest in memory, personal transformation, and human relationships.

Through figurative and expressive painting, I primarily explore childhood memory and female suffering. My work seeks to bear witness to violent family dynamics, revealing the complex entanglement of love, hatred, and self-destruction within the domestic sphere. Within families, physical, sexual, and psychological abuse is often buried or silenced. The current focus of my practice is to shed light on the disturbing recurrence of such situations and, more importantly, on the lasting consequences these environments have on individuals as they grow into adulthood. In doing so, I aim to create an expiatory form of painting that can open dialogue, functioning as a visual archive. Having myself experienced a dysfunctional family environment, I question the different stages of resilience. This artistic approach openly embraces a cathartic dimension while also addressing broader issues such as social and collective healing.
