Who is Katie ?

Katie Faust’s work is an ongoing exploration of personal identity, shaped by their experiences as a queer and non-binary person. Through the medium of oil painting, Faust creates intimate portraits that examine the intersections of gender, sexuality, and identity. They hope these works invite viewers to move beyond their own perspectives to reflect on social norms while celebrating the breadth of queer existence.

During their residency at the Fondation des États-Unis, Faust will collaborate with members of the queer community in Paris to explore the spaces where queer people thrive and the diversity of identities that exist within them. Through a series of portraits centered on a trans-feminist and inclusive fútbol (soccer) league, the project will examine how sport can serve as a site of joy, resistance, and self-expression for those living outside traditional gender norms. Through these works, Faust aims to highlight the power of community and the many ways queer individuals find a sense of belonging and personal identity.

Faust earned a degree in Fine Arts and Art History from Indiana University Bloomington. Their work has been exhibited throughout Indiana, including at Tube Factory ArtSpace and the Indianapolis Art Center.
