Who is Joëlle ?

Joëlle Antonia Santiago (born in New York, NY) is an artist based between New York, London, and Paris whose work spans choreographic creation, performance, and writing. Her practice is grounded in disability ethics and a close attention to language, through which she explores grief, biblical iconography, and narrative. Joëlle frequently collaborates with musicians, sculptors, theorists, and filmmakers, creating works for galleries, museums, sculpture gardens, and other social spaces.

Joëlle was awarded the Fulbright–Harriet Hale Woolley Scholarship for the Arts in Paris, France. She is currently an artist-in-residence at the Fondation des États-Unis (Paris), where she is developing choreographic projects throughout the 2023–2025 season. She is also pleased to be receiving choreographic mentorship through the Artistic Development Program at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London (2024–2025).

Her work has been presented at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Roulette Intermedium, Chelsea Piers, The Clark Art Institute, the International Studio & Curatorial Program, the CitéShort Film Festival (Paris), the Fondation des États-Unis (Paris), as well as with the collective PROMPTUS and Blackbox Music Ensemble. Joëlle was selected as a 2024 Choreography Fellow with AXIS Dance Company and is currently collaborating with Dance for Parkinson’s, Paris.

She is an Adjunct Professor at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, where she has led the Summer High School Intensive, and has been invited to lecture at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, as well as at the Fulbright Association. Joëlle is an ambassador for ITSLIQUID Group, a global communication platform for contemporary art, architecture, design, and fashion.

Joëlle holds a B.A. in Dance from Barnard College, Columbia University, and was nominated for the Bold Award in honor of alumna Grace Lee Boggs. She speaks French and is studying Spanish.
