Who is Giselle ?

Giselle Hobbs is a New York–based artist who was a Fulbright Fellow in Painting at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris during the 2023–2024 academic year. She creates large-scale illusionistic paintings that examine the relationship between humans and the natural environment while engaging with a range of cosmologies from different historical periods and geographic contexts. Her practice is in constant dialogue with other media such as photography, eco-art, and bio-art, as well as with projections and installations that at times incorporate moving images and sound.

She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Cornell University, earned at the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning. In 2022, she received the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship in Painting; her work was also selected for the Council for the Arts Award and presented at the Museum Biennial. Hobbs has received additional honors, including the Kable Russell Award and the Ulysses Award for Outstanding Achievement in Fine Arts. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, and her works are held in private collections in the United States and abroad, including at the University of Cambridge.
