Who is Amandine ?

Amandine Thony produces monochrome editions and sculptures marked by recurring formal motifs. Her sculptures, often made of plaster, appear as vestiges destined to erode under the weight of contemporary ailments. At the same time, an ongoing reflection on the impact of technology on the management of her work informs her practice. She creates editions from digital images generated by an algorithm that repeats and complexifies her initial drawings. The forms unfold across the paper and are led to hybridize, creating labyrinthine compositions that sometimes extend several meters in length. Her approach lies at the intersection of multiple disciplines, combining elements of economic sciences, computer science, and aesthetics to develop a reflection on ornament and modernism. Amandine graduated in 2022 from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Lyon and, in 2024, obtained a Master’s degree in Art and International Creation from Université Panthéon-Sorbonne. In spring 2024, with the support of the Maison Française, she conducted research in New York for a curatorial project in partnership with curator Elena Posokhova.

While she has worked in France with organizations such as the Institut d’Art Contemporain de Villeurbanne and the Beaux-Arts Campus association, Thony has also taken part in international projects, including the co-organization of an exhibition at the Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre in Hong Kong.
