Who is Adela ?

Originally from Miami Beach, Adela Hurtado is a 2D animator, production designer, and Peruvian-American lawyer based in New York. She earned her bachelor’s degree from New York University, as well as a Juris Doctor and a Master of Laws from Fordham University School of Law and Peking University, respectively. Before turning to animation and filmmaking, Adela worked on public-interest legal cases for nonprofit organizations, law firms, and the United Nations.

She has loved animation since childhood and, during her law studies, took evening classes in the field. Even after beginning her career as a lawyer, she continued this training, specializing in hand-drawn 2D animation. She has since embarked on an artistic career, working on animated films, live-action projects, and photographic works in Peru and China. Her work has been exhibited at the Walt Disney Family Museum in California as well as in various galleries in New York.

Committed to community engagement, Adela co-founded the NYU Latinx Alumni Network in 2017 and now serves as its president. She also recently co-founded Viva La Animación, a new animation community supporting Latin American creators. Ready to take the next step in her career as an animator, she began her studies at Gobelins in Paris as part of the Master’s program in Visual Storytelling, where she is developing her own animation projects rooted in her Peruvian heritage, personal experiences, and themes of nostalgia.
