For the first Art-Hop-Polis edition of the 2022-23 cultural season, we invite you to a retrospective of works by Bertille de Baudinière, artist and FEU alumna (1983-1985). Une Histoire de Terre brings together three series of works – Green, Blue and Red Earth – exhibited over the past ten years, featuring compositions of earth and the colors that flow from it. Attracted by the Earth, my work revolves around its 3 colors: green, blue and red. I choose small amounts of earth collected in different parts of the world, mix them with casein, and fix them on the canvas. Then, gravity no longer exists.
Here it is suspended, this earth, on a wall: vertical, weightless.

About the Artist
Born in Saint Malo in 1955, Bertille de Baudinière received her diploma from the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1982. From 1983 to 1985, she was an artist-in-residence at the Fondation des Etats-Unis in Paris and was awarded in 1985 the Prix de la Fondation Nationale of the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris. Starting in 1986 Baudinière studied in Japan upon receiving the Monbucho scholarship at the Tokyo University of the Arts, where she received a master’s degree in 1990 in the Department of Occidental Painting Techniques under the direction of Kazumichi Sakamoto. From 1990 to 1991, she was an artist-in-residence at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha. In New York from 2008 to 2012, she was active in the Long Island City artists’ community, working at Reis Studios. Baudinière has shown her work continuously since 1982, with solo exhibitions throughout France and in Japan, Germany, and the United States. Her paintings are represented in public and private collections including the City University of New York, Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, Tomura Gallery in Tokyo, and the Fondation des Etats-Unis.
