As part of Art-Hop-Polis, the photographer Adine Sagalyn will exhibit her photographic compositions on Wednesday 8 November from 7pm to 8.30pm at the FEU. In assembling her photographic compositions, Adine Sagalyn makes use of a palette of images drawn from the world of architecture, urban landscapes and industrial products. Scaffolding on a construction site, reflections in an old window, raw copper piping, black garbage bags, gaudy cans of Oriental food on a grocery shelf : she seeks out objects we might not even glance at, homing in on telling details, then juxtaposing her photographs to fill a wider canvas. Geometry, rhythm and resonance are her touchstones as she proceeds, image by image, form by luminous form, creating multiple perspectives that open out like those of a kaleidoscope, and in so doing, transforms the everyday world as we see it. About the Artist
Adine Sagalyn is Franco-American. She came to Paris in 1981 and has been working as a portrait photographer and fine artist since 1989. Sagalyn created a monumental 500m2 photographic fresco for the Danone Group’s Daniel Carasso Research Center (building designed by Architecture Studio). For Renault, she created a traveling exhibition which was subsequently included in a retrospective exhibition on the Champs Elysées alongside works of world-renowned artists Tinguely, Arman, Erro, Cesar and Doisneau. The RATP invited her to exhibit at the Franklin D. Roosevelt metro station: she created Paris sur Quais – 5 photographic compositions in motion which were shown on and off throughout 2013-2014. Adine Sagalyn’s fine art work has been exhibited in France, the United States, China and Japan. Her archives include over 700 portraits of writers. She is represented by the photography agency akg-images. Adine Sagalyn is presently working on two book projects: Là, en attente, portraits of men living at the Mie de Pain, a Refuge center in the 13th arrondissement, and Coming to Light, portrait of South African artist William Kentridge at work in his studio.
